SANGSANGAI FLOOD RELIEF FOR THE TERAI REGION OF SOUTHERN NEPAL
In the southern region of Nepal, a heavy monsoon and three days of particularly hard rain have left 175 people dead as of August 14th. According to reporting by Al-Jazeera, 48,000 homes have been submerged and people are fleeing for higher ground.

The staff and volunteers of Sangsangai, coordinated by Director Bibek K. Pandit are putting together a plan for bringing relief supplies to the region once travel is possible. They have created a plan to provide families with a box comprising all needed items for this emergency period based on our experience delivering supplies during the earthquake. We are coordinating the effort with a number of youth organizations.
Location: The Sangsangai team has a local contact in the district of Rautahat and they are now working with local authorities to designate Sangsangai as the organization assigned to a group of local communities.

Phase One: Deliver supplies to 100 families in Saptari. During the delivery process, the team will observe the ground conditions and report back about the needs. With an average family size of 6, this will provide support to 600 individuals.
Phase Two: Contingent on funding, the team will return with another delivery of supplies, serving 150 families in Mahottari.
Phase 3: With adequate funding, the team will do a final delivery of supplies in Rautahat, for 250 families.

Sangsangai has partnered with a number of organizations for volunteer support. For phase one, we will be sending a team of 7 to distribute supplies in the effected areas. The remaining volunteers have been collecting supplies and sorting clothing donations in Kathmandu to prepare for the first delivery, which is scheduled for Saturday, August 19th.

he America Nepal Medical Foundation is providing one truckload of supplies at a cost of $6000 to the effected flooded areas in partnership with Sangsangai Nepal.
As with all of our work, we will give a full accounting of how all the donations are used to benefit the victims. Funds will be sent via wire transfer through our established link between the two organizations. We look forward to partnering with other organizations and individuals to provide these badly needed supplies to the victims of the flooding.
